Installing IE Tab in Chrome Instructions

  1. Open the Google Chrome browser (should be on the latest version at the time of installation.)
  2. Download “IE Tab” from the Chrome Web Store.

NOTE:    The IE Tab link above currently points to IE Tab in the Chrome Web Store–Extensions, but if the link changes, then simply search for “IE Tab” in the Chrome Web Store.

  1. Click on Add to Chrome.

  1. When prompted click, Add extension.

  1. When installation is complete, Chrome will have a new icon by the target bar area.

  1. Click the IE Tab icon.

The user will be redirected to a web page with instructions to download and install IETabHelper.exe, this is necessary for IE Tab to work correctly. The download should happen automatically and be available at the bottom of Chrome.

  1. Click the caret next to the filename and select Show in folder.

  1. Locate the EXE file in the folder and right-click on Run as Administrator to install the tool.
  2. Once installed, IETabHelper.exe will reside in the ‘\Users\{login}\AppData\Local\IE Tab\{version}’ folder.

 

NOTE:    The download web page will clear once the tool has been installed and redisplay the documentation web page.

 

  1. Click on the Screwdriver and Wrench icon to configure the IE Tab.

  1. When the configuration page opens, scroll down to IE Compatibility Mode and select IE 11 Standard mode.

  1. Close Chrome completely.

 

  1. Reopen Chrome and click on the IE Tab icon.

  1. Type in the URL/Address that you wish to open in the IE Tab bar.

  1. To exit from IE Tab, exit Chrome, close the tab using IE Tab or click on the X at the end of the IE Tab line.

 

NOTE:    Multiple tabs can be opened in Chrome with or without the IE Tab running in them.

Additional Option

To make it easier to get to the desired web page, create a favorite on the Bookmarks bar in Chrome when you are have the page pulled up in IE Tab. This will allow the user to connect to the web page using IE Tab without needing to click on the IE Tab icon each time.

To create the shortcut in the Bookmarks bar:

  1. Click on the star next to Chrome’s target bar.

  1. Enter in a meaningful name and select Bookmarks bar.

 

NOTE:    The bookmark will have the IE Tab icon to the left of the bookmark name. This icon is different from the other normal Chrome bookmark icons.

 

  1. Click Done.

 

NOTE:    If the Bookmarks bar is not turned on in Chrome, press Ctrl + Shift + B to turn it on.
